This rare artwork is a proof avant la lettre, a proof before the letter/words, aside from the edition. The final print with text was used an exhibition poster for Hockney's exhibition at the Andre Emmerich Gallery in New York in 1969.

David Hockney (born 1937) is one of the most influential 20th century British artists.
