Peter Coker was a celebrated realist painter with an expressive and stylised way of painting. Coker was born in 1926 (d. 2004) and grew up with visible artistic talent, going on to study at St Martin’s School of Art and later painting in France and Italy with realist influences. He served during WW2, subsequently returning to England to study again and went on to teach at art schools. He became known as a member of the Kitchen Sink School because of the groups realism art that was inspired by everyday scenes. Coker began exhibiting, particularly successfully at Zwemmer Gallery, when his profile increased and he continued painting landscapes and other everyday scenes in his stylised manner.
