Terry Frost (1915-2003), born in Cornwall, was an important figure in the new British abstract art movement and he became one of Britain’s most prominent 20th century abstract artists. Prior to his art career, Frost worked in retail and served in World War 2 where he was held in POW camps; here he met Adrian Heath who sparked his love for painting. After the war, Frost trained at several art schools and worked for Barbara Hepworth, subsequently exploring construction, colour and collage techniques. He began exhibiting his own work and growing his reputation. He was appointed a Royal Academician and knighted in the 1990s and his work is exhibited extensively internationally.
